Car engulfed in flames on Sheridan Lake Road

A 1992 BMW car was destroyed in a fire on Sheridan Lake Road near the Moon Mountain Meadows turnoff at about 6:20 p.m. today. Two youths in the vehicle escaped injury.

South Dakota Highway Patrol Capt. Kevin Karley was on his way home when he saw the vehicle stopped just north of Dunsmore Road with a smoking engine. The car was driven by the 14-year-old daughter of its owner, Robert Morgan, according to Trooper Michael Adam.

It was fully engulfed in flames when Whispering Pines Volunteer Fire Department arrived on the scene. Traffic was limited to one lane on Sheridan Lake for an hour while emergency workers put out the fire and removed the car, Adam said. The fire likely was caused by mechanical or electrical failure, he said.
